Why?
Well, first read the story under the D & I litter pups for starters.... then,
I needed a good male for my Zaoa vom Kerschberger, (See her under the females) drop dead gorgeous, (line-bred 2,3 on V6 Noscha and SG4 Nova Wienerau - bszs results which still give me the chills...) attitude+, and a daughter of my beloved Zuni, the last breed-able Wienerau of the old bloodlines as bred by Walter Martin in the USA.
First, Zuni is my pandora box. No and's if's or but's about that... maybe read that link so to understand why.
OK [sigh] It was pure instinct at first, and research afterwards, that this was the dog (Hobby) which inserted into the current lines of *Top Dogs a superb CCC. (character, courage, conformation) Of course, it comes from other dogs before him, but, Hobby was the consolidator of the genetic material which made him perfect (to me). And, I am talking about *RECENT Top placing dogs. Hobby was the only dog bred by the Kennel of vom Gletschertopf (meaning: top of the Glacier) who rose to the top. A crapshoot, maybe, that is what breeding is, realistically... Hobby was liked a lot by Walter Martin [breeder of the Wienerau's] after he was encouraged by his wife Renee to use Hobby, consequently Hobby was bred to 5 Wienerau females. Okki, Xena, Quarissa, Warinka and her sister VA Wanni being the highest ranking, and the grand-dam of Zuni. So, the search was on for Hobby, or direct offspring of his. It took me TEN MONTHS to find out that Hobby was still alive (then) and well, living the good life in Sweden and that he had been infertile since about 1999. (Hobby died of old age in May 05) That, I heard from his breeder, who then referred me to his German owner. He, in turn, the breeder of "vom Jagerfreund", was quiet for awhile as he was listening to my pleas/cries for a daughter or son of Hobby. He told me he did not have any Hobby daughters anymore other than a co-owned one which was not available. Then he, after his quiet pause, brought up Dian. Saying "I have a good Hobby son who was SG31 in the Young Dogs class, and VA twice in Sweden and Argentina..."
I was a bit floored, (understatement) and after lifting myself back up on my chair and coming out of shock, thought, well, there goes my equity line of credit for a useful purpose ;) And so VA Dian arrived on June 8th 2004 and has been a great pleasure and addition to our lives and breeding program. The "C" and "D", "Hermania" and "I" litters were Sired by VA Dian under the vom Kerschberger name thus far. (Aside from some outside breedings)
VA 7 Argentina, VA6 Sweden

Dian vom Baronenwald
The fabulous Half sister of Dian, V Gina vom Trossbachtal, a Hobby Daughter, (yes, finally I succeeded there too) and her fabulous daughter Utica vom Lehnhof joined us in June of 05! >>>>>> Dian and Gina have produced a litter of TWO - TWO line-breeding on Hobby! Dian and Utica produced Hermania vom Kerschberger. (2,3 on Hobby)
Henceforth, I have the following line-breedings on Hobby, 2,2 (Dian x Gina) - 3,2 (Zuni x Gina) and (Dian x Utica) - 2,3 and 2,4 with Dian x Zaoa. The 2,2 produced long coats with one stock coated GORGEOUS MALE too which, of course, i'm keeping... - However, the 2,3 produced no long coats and the 2,4 produced none.
Why line-breed? Simply to pull in as much of the genetic material of said dog you are line-breeding on, as possible. I don't see that line-breeding OVER 3,3 is useful. ie: 3,4 etc. So whenever you see someone advertising 3,4 or higher, like, 3,5 etc on this or that champion dog, it has very little left of the genetics of that champion dog to survive the fight. A 4,4 line-breeding I did had nothing in common with the dogs they were line-bred on. However, a 3,3 line-breeding I did (on a different dog), was a success!
So, these great line-breedings are to further the insert the great genetics of Hobby in combination with the superior Wienerau bloodlines. Now that is a journey I hope Walter Martin will be proud off!
go to this table to see my method of madness ;)
