The History of the Breed
The Chihuahua is a very old breed of Mexican
origin.
Named for the state of Chihuahua in this Mexico,
where he was discovered and domesticated from the
wild.
Some countries believe that is called "Chihuahua"
which means "dry and sandy place" in Rarámuri dog
as already mentioned before the actual name of
this breed is "Chihuahua."
The history of this race is still uncertain and
there are different theories about its origin.
One of them says he was born a dog known in
ancient Mexico called "Washap", "Telchichi" or
"agouti" (much like the current chihuahua) serving
dish sacred to the Aztec priests. At this time the
"telchichis" were devoured by dogs called blood
conquerors, the survivors were crossed with dogs
of the Toltec tribes, hardy animals, strong bones,
which were used for hunting and sometimes food.
The Aztecs regarded it as religious guide of the
souls of the dead during the journey beyond.
It also says there is a possibility that it is a
pygmy race of a lost civilization that survived
became wild in the woods.
Another possible theory that came to Mexico in
1850's a variety of Chinese miniature puppies with the
same migration of Chinese who came from Mazatlan
and Acapulco for the construction of Chihuahua
Pacific Railroad, which brought dogs with them and
came across this place native dogs and Chihuahua
occurred.
Although it is a question, we do know that it was
discovered by Americans in the late nineteenth
century who visited northern Mexico and released Canófila fairs worldwide.
